No Progress on “Matched” Movie Project

Ally Condie has taken to her personal Twitter to confirm that there has been no progress and no updates on the “Matched” movie project. Kimmy West’s Page to Premiere website was the first to report on Ally’s tweet. We reported, some time ago, that David Slade stepped down from the director’s chair and Jon Chu “stepped up” to replace him. Jon Chu, of course, was the director of movies that included Step Up: 2 and Step Up: 3D, both of which he worked with with Matched producer Adam Shankman. As of January of this year, he was in the negotiations to direct but nothing had been confirmed.

After the script, penned by husband and wife team Michelle and Kiernan Mulroney (who also penned the script for a Sherlock Holmes film), had been confirmed as complete back in January of this year, there has been no more movie news. Six months after the Jon Chu and script news, Ally Condie confirms that there has been no more news/updates on the project.

Do you think that this news about the lack of news is a bad sign for any hopes of an actual movie being produced? Hopefully the executives that give movies a “green light” to start production will be watching as our fellow fans at The Mortal Instruments fandom turn out big box office numbers for Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones movie. If movies like City of Bones and upcoming the Divergent film do well at the box office, “Matched” may have a better chance of transitioning from book to movie!

Ally Condie’s New Project!

Ally Condie has made a major announcement on her personal website! As reported by the Children’s Book Council, Ally Condie is planning on taking us from a futuristic land to an imagined, complex underwater world! Ally informs fans on her blog post that she is staying with the same team that she worked with while writing and publishing Matched, Crossed and Reached.

So far, Ally has signed on for two books to be published. The first book does not have a working title yet, so Ally is referring to it as “The Rio Book.” Here’s an excerpt of Ally’s (spoiler-free) edited version of the official press release:

The first book, scheduled for publication in fall 2014, tells the story of Rio, who has waited her whole life for the opportunity to leave her safe, underwater city of Atlantia for life on the surface. But when her life takes an unexpected twist and Rio must remain below, she is left with increasingly dangerous questions about the complex political and religious system constructed to govern the fragile divide between land and sea.

It sounds like Ally Condie is really delving into the fantastical, which should be fun! We’ve got stories about werewolves, vampires, angels, demons, Gods… and now we will have one about an underwater world! It is not specified if this will be about “merpeople,” but I’m sure in due time we will find out. While Ally says she is excited to write about families and sister, she also reassured her fans that there will be more amazing romance stories in our future, saying,  “Don’t worry, there is also romance!”

What do you think about the new announcement? Feeling skeptical about a story about an underwater world? Feeling excited to learn about that world’s “complex political and religious system”? Share in the comments!!!

Ally Condie’s Mom – The Artist

Ally recently posted a very touching tribute to her mother on her website. In Reached, we came to find out that everyone that throws themselves into their work can, in a way, be defined by that passion. Cassia is the writer, Ky the pilot and Xander the medic. I would also say that we could call Indie the dreamer and Cassia’s mom the grower.

Ally Condie's lovely mother!

Ally Condie’s lovely mother!

In her latest blog post, Ally Condie essentially dubs her mother “the artist.” It’s a very touching blog post about family, moms, passion and the art of creating. If you need a little pick me up, I suggest reading the post in its’ entirety!

Matched Fandom.Net Interview with Ally Condie!

Hello, fellow matched fans! You asked, and Ally answered. Three student librarians from the Bethesda Library asked if they could join in on the interview that we set up. Lily, Erica and Tara joined me at the table, Ally Condie sat with us all and awesomeness ensued.

I can not emphasize enough just how awesome Ally was for this interview. She was so welcoming, and truly interested in answering our questions. All in all, we got to talk with her one-on-four for a good 30-35 minutes.

A bit blurry, but Ally Condie looks about 5 years younger than me! And of course, we have a lovely backdrop of stuffed bears in various colors for your viewing pleasure.

There were some truly hilarious moments and lots of laughing. But the amount of insight you can gain from reading this will blow your mind! Yeah, I went there. Did you know a character in the series is based off of Ally’s mom? Or that the Matching ceremony is based off of the idea of a prom taken to the extremes?

During the interview, Ally touched on a little bit of everything.

(Me) The majority of our fans, their number one question was – now that you’re done with the trilogy they all seem to want more – we had a user Audra ask, “Now that the trilogy is complete, have you ever wanted to go back and write a novella about some aspect of the trilogy you weren’t able to touch before, a prequel, or is it complete for you?”

It’s complete for me right now; but that said there are certain characters and things that I could see revisiting in the future. There’s no contract or plans or anything started, but I wouldn’t ever rule it out. I mean, it feels really complete but I can also see the potential for maybe something later.

(LILY) Can you tell me who your favorite character was?

My favorite character to write is Indie, because every time she was on the page it was really unexpected and she was making a mess and I liked that a lot. So that’s my favorite character to write.

Poetry, symbolism, Ry Bradbury and a heart-warming story of children eating Easter egg dye after the cut!

We’re Interviewing Ally Condie.. Seriously!

Ally Condie is going to be making a stop in Washington, DC on November 29th… a week from now! If you are going to be in the area let us know!If anyone wants to meet up I (Annie) will be there all evening. For those of you that can’t be there in person.. Ally Condie and her team are being super accommodating and we’ve set up a time for the interview and I am so excited to share this expierence with all of you.

It’s been just over a week since “Reached” was released. Have you finished reading the book? Were all of your questions answered with the closing of the trilogy, or did you find yourself asking even more questions after you turned that final page? Did you find yourself curled on your livingroom floor, clutching a pillow, overcome with emotion and bawling your eyes out in the fetal position… oh wait, maybe that was just me!!

Either way, fellow Cassia fans, now is the time to submit your questions! For every comment you make, as long as it contains a question, I will enter your name into a drawing for a signed copy of “Reached”!!

Reached is Finally Here!

The Matched Trilogy has finally “Reached” it’s finale. Today is the day, Cassia fans, that we are able to get our hands on the third and final book of the series. With the release of each book, Ally Condie has posted something on her site.

Ally included a beautiful picture of “Reached” along a brick path in her “Reached” post. I love the charred wood along the path, and the fact that the road blurs into the wilderness and field at the end. Ally says the symbolism of the picture is perfect because we, the readers, are “…not entirely certain where the book is on the path–is it the beginning? the end? Both?”

This is such a bittersweet day! This may be the end of the journey for Cassia, Ky, Xander and all of our beloved characters… it may just be the beginning of something new for all of them! For the readers, I think that this can be the beginning of a wonderful journey and discovery of new words, lost poetry and self-discovery. Cheers to Ally Condie and cheers to all our fellow fans… ENJOY!!
