David Slade is no longer set to direct Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Matched. Though there’s no news as to why this change occurred, Heat Vision is reporting that Jon Chu is about to seal a deal to take his place in the director’s chair!
Jon Chu is mostly known for more modern-day, highly-choreographed films like Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D (both of which he worked on with Matched producer Adam Shankman) as well as the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation. It will be interested to see what he does with a heartfelt futuristic romance!
The article also confirms that the script written by Michelle and Kiernan Mulroney (who also penned Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows) is complete! Hopefully, this means the project will start rolling along quickly from here on out!
Just Jared Jr. recently covered Reached in their book club, at which time they unleashed a great quote from Ally Condie that was previously published in Entertainment Weekly. It’s all about her favorite fancasts for the upcoming Matched movie!
Here’s her take on it all:
“I’m 34, so I’m mostly thinking about whose dad Nathan Fillion could play. [Laughs] A lot of fans have been sending pictures of actors. I just saw Logan Lerman in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. A lot of fans have mentioned him, and I was kind of dying because he’s the cutest thing ever — he would be a great Ky. Also, Nina Dobrev from The Vampire Diaries.”
We wouldn’t be opposed to the inclusion of Nathan Fillion, either!
We’re doing a fancasting here on Matched Fandom, if you don’t already know, and we recently posted a poll for you to vote on your choice actor for Ky Markham. Just a refresher, the choices of actors included: Logan Lerman, Drew Roy, Landon Liboiron, Chace Crawford, Kevin Zegers and Zac Efron.
The most votes went to…
Logan Lerman got the highest number votes, with Drew Roy bringing up a close second. What are your thoughts on Logan?
So far, our dream cast consists of Emma Roberts as Cassia and Logan as Ky. Who’s next? Make sure to take part in our next poll!
Deadline has announced that director David Slade has been picked to helm Disney’s adaptation of Matched:
Disney has signed David Slade to direct Matched, and adaptation of the Ally Condie young-adult novel. The book series revolves around a girl in a dystopian future where choice is taken away, and a young woman falls in love with a guy she has not been matched with. Kieran and Michelle Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes 2) wrote the script and Offspring’s Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman are producing. The third book in the series, Reached, will be published in November by Penguin. Slade directed 30 Days Of Night and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and was supposed to direct Daredevil before backing out to direct the pilot for Hannibal. He is repped by WME.
At this point, it seems David Slade is only signed on for the first film, which is typical with film series’ these days. He known for having a unique visual style in each of his films, so we can’t wait to see what he brings to Matched!
Since she was cast in The Mortal Instruments, Lily Collins has become a fan favorite for a lot of other YA franchises that will soon be films, and it seems Matched is no exception! Just check out this fan poster by evanessca!
Does Lily seem like a good fit for Cassia? Or do you have someone else in mind?
